I recently went into my google analytics account to take a look at my sites and found that they had all jumped up quite a bit in traffic, even brand new sites that shouldn’t have much traffic yet. When I investigated I found a robot crawler in there called Semalt. It was destroying my analytics; inflating them with multiple visits!

I researched the company, and apparently they are a huge scam. They are selling website traffic, but all they send to your site are robots, not real converting targeted potential customers. DO NOT buy their services. They are scam artists.

I then researched how to get them to stop visiting your site and screwing up your analytics. You can filter your results in google analytics, but I would much rather they not visit my sites at all!

Here is a web page on their site where you can exclude your sites from their robots:

http://semalt.com/project_crawler.php

Be sure to include the full URL with http://yoursite.com as well as http://www.yoursite.com and if you use secure HTTP also do https://www and https://

I was very skeptical that this would work seeing as they aren’t the most reputable company to begin with, but so far no Semalt crawlers have been back to the sites I have added to their own exclusion list.

I hope this helps you!
